Southport Baptist Church, Southport, Gold Coast

Friday 10th April, 2009
Prayer Vigil - Norm Rix Park, Labrador

Here's some prayers from a local Gold Coast kid, Tom:

My prayer for my family: for my mum and dad to get back together
My prayer for Australia: to keep Australia a free country
My prayer for myself: To have a huge 12 birthday

Would you and your church consider coming to be part of this special opportunity?  We are asking for churches to lead an hour block of the night. We are also keen for people to stay on as other churches come and pray.

We had a great time last year with about 50 people gathering in the park to pray for over 300 kids prayers for the community of Labrador, for the Gold Coast and further abroad.  We will be holding another Prayer Vigil and would love to see more and more churches involved.  The Prayer Vigil was amongst many others held around Australia, some through the whole night!

AIM: The aim is to acknowledge our great God and to pray that the Easter message will take root in the hearts of individuals and in the fabric of our city and nation; to pray for the children and their families by hearing their concerns and needs and interceding for them; to have a concerted time of prayer across the nation, praying for each other’s regions and thereby interceding for the whole nation.

WHEN: Good Friday 10th April, 6pm-midnight (would love to go right through )

PLACE: Norm Rix Park, Labrador

PROGRAM: The evening is broken up into  segments of 1 hour each. Each segment will provide opportunity for worship, a speaker focusing the group’s thoughts and plenty of opportunity for prayer.  We would love each church to have a speaker, and a musician if possible.

COORDINATOR: Andy Beeston, Fusion Australia, 0406 990121

BREADTH: Dozens of prayer vigils were held in 2008. They included participation
by all major denominations, youth groups, Christian dance or drama groups, Aboriginal & Islander churches as well as many varied ethnic churches.

LINK UP: Communication with other vigils around Australia by mobile telephone or two way radio increases awareness of the event being nationwide.

VARIOUS FORMS OF WORSHIP AND PRAYER: Prayer can be in one large group, a number of small ones, or individually. It may be aloud, or silent. Bible passages and prayer books may be used, along with prayers written by school children as part of the Reclaiming Easter Schools program (My Prayer for Australia). Children’s participation in the first session can be encouraged.

Singing with various forms of accompaniment may be used, dance expressing worship, responsive reading of psalms, meditation on Bible passages and waiting silently on God. People might like to sit or stand or walk around. A basic format for prayer is the ACTS model; adoration, confession, thanksgiving and supplication.
