Youth and Young Adults (YAYA)

The Youth and Young Adults are a vital part of the church. With a strong commitment to one another and a strong desire to reach their unsaved peers we should regularly commit this group of people to prayer.

The YAYA mission statement is Submitted ... Serving ... Seeking and Saving. The logo combines all these elements. The four S’s are in a circle representing a completeness. When a youth or young adult is a part of all four S’s it might be considered they are a complete Christian. Naturally though, a circle is never ending, symbolising our need to constantly strive for the prize ahead.

“If you don’t know where you are going, you will probably end up somewhere else.”

[L.J. Peter]

  • Trusting Him

Seeking and Saving the Lost

This will be demonstrated through:

Seeking the Lost

It will be here that plans can be made to take the gospel from our church to youth and young adults in our community

“If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work.”

[ Paul of Tarsus]

Current Situation

We currently run Making MUD on a Friday night from 5:30-7:30pm. We have three leaders (Brett, Naomi, and Michael D) committed to this group at this time. In order to reach the vision, ‘manpower’ and resources are needed. A managed plan of steps over a longer period time is required. Below is my suggestion of how to go about it.

Step 1- Establish Making MUD

Needed:

  • Someone to pray for this group which is designed to make Mature Unified Disciples
  • Someone to provide a meal each week for around 20 youths at ~6:00-6:30pm
  • Another leader (female) to participate in discipling youths through this group
  • Training of leaders

Step 2 - Establishing Hang Out Time

Needed:

  • Someone to pray during this time before it is established
  • Someone to pray once it is up and running
  • Someone to provide afternoon tea each week (~4:30pm)
  • Some people (2-3) to hang out and get to know the youth (ideally leaders of Making MUD and young adults but anyone who can provide life and spiritual guidance with care)
  • Equipment for use:
    • Table Tennis Table
    • Basket ball hoop
    • Dart board to be hung on wall
    • Pool cue storage thingy (for on wall)
    • Other? Fridge? Computer?

Step 3 - Establishing Ekklhsi,a – The Gathering

Needed:

  • Someone to pray during this time before it is established
  • Someone to pray once it is up and running
  • Sound person
  • Musicians (3-4)
  • Young Adults Leaders – to lead nights – will work closely with me for planning each night – training ongoing

Step 4 – Establishing Stubucks

Needed:

  • Someone to run Stubucks
  • Team (2-3) to serve/make drinks, set up tables etc.

Step 5 - Establishing Outreach

Suggestions and needs:

High Schools

  • Someone connected with highschool
  • Team of organisers (3-4) to put together after school activities designed to introduce God to highschoolers and draw them to our Youth and Young Adults program on Friday afternoon/nights.

University

  • Someone with connections to university
  • Team of organisers (3-4) to work in university to share gospel. (see Tony Rowbotham)

Teen Mission International

  • Group of committed teens wanting to go on overseas mission
  • Team of fundraisers to raise funds to send a team of youth on an overseas mission with Teen Mission Intl.

“We do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God… For we do not preach ourselves but Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as servants for Jesus’ sake.”

[Paul of Tarsus]

Physical Exercise Social Group (sat morning? Following Ekklhsi,a for discussion?)

  • Someone to organise regular social events for others to bring friends to in order to introduce non-Christians to Christians

Ice Skating outreach

  • Teens to go ice skating to build relationships and share faith
